In The Begining, There Was A College Application Essay

Life. A word, a cereal, a passion.

The word: The dictionary will give you 10-20 different definitions, all void of emotion or realness.
The cereal: Comes in two flavors: Original and Cinnamon.
The passion: My camera. My life.

My goal is to show at least ten people in this world the beauty in life. Whether it’s something new to them or a new approach at looking at an "ordinary" object. I plan on doing this through the lens of a camera, still or video. I cannot tell you when or why I developed such a deep-rooted passion for photography and film, I just know it has always been a part of me. I knew in 7th grade, way before I had even considered taking a photography or television course that I wanted to go to college for it.

I received my first Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera for Christmas my freshman year of high school: a simple manual Nikon 35mm with a zoom lens. I have taken that camera with me everywhere from my backyard to London, England, to New York City. I’ve used countless rolls of film and spent, I’m sure, thousands of dollars in developing fees trying to capture everything along the way. And yet I still have many images stored in my head from when I did not bring my camera (or enough film).

Sophomore year I fell in love with video; Just another way for me to show the true meaning of life. I owe a lot of my passion to my Television Production teacher, Tobias Baharian, an alumnus of Emerson. He not only has taught me how to use my "great eye" (as he refers to it) even more, but also has given me the gift of a career goal. Through his class I have learned everything from using VHS, SVHS, and MiniDV cameras (none of which I had ever even picked up), to completing 10-minute music montages for our television show, Krunk, in one week. Which comes down to about 7-7.5 hours total editing time.

All in all, life can be robbed of all its excitement and passion, or it can be pumped with a little hint of cinnamon and the passion will forever flow throughout your veins. I will never give up my goals, and never let anything rob me of my passion. Test me if the need be. My passion, my camera. My life.
